THE SCHOOL OF TRUTH LECTURE UNITED WE STAND

You all know the adage "United we stand, divided we fall." Well, this is how it is

with Truth, literally. We must examine our minds and our hearts, and see whether

there is unity of our thoughts and feelings. If my intellect runs in one direction and

my emotions in another, then, even though I am praying, visualising and having

my moments of silence, the good I desire will not become manifest.

It is possible, when you look at a film to become really involved with what is

portrayed. What you see in your intellect goes into your emotional nature and you

begin to respond as though it is real. But you can put a match to the celluloid and it

will disappear in a few seconds. Do you know that your life is like a film? What is

the picture on the screen of your intellect? Is it a picture that causes fear or other

negative emotions in you? If so, it is because you have allowed uncertainty to grip

you. You no longer are able to direct your consciousness. You have allowed your

problem to become your reality. It stirs your solar plexus.

Several years ago I went to see a woman who had breast cancer. They were going

to amputate her breast and she was very frightened. She was not yet middle-aged,

and felt she was losing part of her womanhood. She asked me this question: "How

is it possible for me not to accept as a reality the need for surgery?" and in reply I

posed this question: "What do you look at?" "Well" she replied "I keep on looking

fearfully at my breast." I asked her if she was praying and she said she was.

"But how are you praying?" I asked. "I am praying with all my heart for God to

remove the cancer, but I cannot forget it. It is here." I said "Have you ever thought

what the Master meant when he said 'Do not judge by appearances but judge with

right judgement'? Your body is the temple of the living God. Every single cell is

permeated with His life and His health. Not for one billionth of a second can He

remove Himself from you - but you are this moment separated in consciousness.

You are praying with fear, you are not praying with faith. You are just uttering

words. You ask and receive not because you ask amiss."

"If you want to ask rightly, start looking at the other breast and identify yourself

with it. And if a thousand times a day - as may happen - your intellect returns to

the cancerous breast immediately switch off and look at the healthy breast. It is not

going to be easy - I will not pretend that it is easy - but it is important that you do

it, very important, because God works for you, through you and as you. He cannot

work through you if your intellect is poisoned by fear. Your whole being must be

focused on Good alone."

This is why I remind you of the adage "United we stand" - united in mind and

heart. If my intellect and my emotions are constructive with my vision in terms of

good, no so-called evil can stop the manifestation of God's good, Which is God

Himself. This is changeless Law.

"You have given me something very hard to do" said this woman. I told her "We at

The School of Truth will share all the love that we have with you. We, particularly

the women, will identify our bodies with your body. There will be thirty praying

with you." This went on for some months, and she was completely healed.

This is not a miracle. You and I, and everything seen and unseen in the whole

universe, are governed by Law. Was something removed from that breast, or was it

not just a change in consciousness, in mind and heart, in attitude? Jesus-Christ was

a teacher, a teacher of others, and he teaches a change of consciousness. He teaches

us not to judge by appearances, which can be a lie, but that according to our faith,

it is done to us.

So your love, the feeler, and your intellect, the thinker, unify, and that which IS,

not going-to-be, becomes manifest through you - naturally, not super-naturally.

But there are nearly five thousand million people transmitting fear throughout our

little planet and our immense universe, and each one is also a receiver. All this

fear, all this hatred is impacting on us. We are tuned into it and find it very difficult

to switch it off.

It is the pleasure of Love, Which is your Creator, to express Himself in every part

of your being as Wholeness. As I have told you before, He does, He compels - He

impels. He impels through our longing for manifestation in ourselves of His

spiritual picture of us. I am looking into a mirror at this moment and I do not like

the mask that I see there, so let me remove the mask and see God's perfect

Presence in myself, the Jesus-Christ Presence, God-as-me. My intellect must keep

telling my heart "Never mind about the lie over there. It is only a mask. The perfect

plan in you is the truth." And then I act it from the moment I awaken until the time

I go to sleep.

This is the gist of my thinking and feeling a thousand times a day: "Here I am,

God's perfect man, God's perfect manifestation, whom He calls 'very good'.

I must be very good." No miracle is going to happen. I am merely going to remove

the facade of my own limited consciousness. I am going to see myself as God sees

me.

For long I played games with young children who were very ill. I had pictures

drawn of the reality of God in them and would persist with them until they

accepted it. In a different situation, I was called out in the early hours of the

morning. The mother said "Please come, we cannot stand it any longer. My child

has severe mastoiditis." So I went to see this little child and found her crying

pitifully. "We believe that if you pray for her she will be healed" the mother said.

"Do you really believe this?" I asked. "Yes we believe it." "Then will you please

leave the room" I said. Holding the little girl in my arms, I placed my hand around

her ear and gave thanks for this perfect manifestation of God. I remained like this

for some time, and the crying ceased. There had been a sudden discharge of pus,

which later drained away. A miracle? The child was too young herself to hold the

untruth. I had to remove the parents' fear from the room so that their child and God

could be alone.

"United we stand." I never forget this. Please remember that I am not essentially

different from you. In Truth we are One Person. The other day I said to a friend

who was on his way to Shul "Pray for me" and he said "You do not need my

prayers." "I do you know" I replied. "We all need prayers. I need strength, I need

inner awareness, I need the decisiveness to keep on going and knowing that I am

working with God. Of course I need your prayers." We all need each other -

because you are me and I am you. We cannot be separated.

The light that lighteth every man is coming into consciousness in you, through you

and as you, and the lie, which is the darkness, or the error, is dissipated back into

its native nothingness. Nothing is healed. Nothing is cured. Consciousness is

changed.

Do you understand this? You change the vision. You change the direction of your

thinking and feeling which, as you know, is very difficult. But we have to ask

ourselves what the rewards are if we change our consciousness, and the answer

is fulfilment - being filled full of awareness of God and His expression in our

minds, hearts, bodies and affairs. Is it worth seeking? Of course it is, and it is free,

as free as the air you breathe.

In 1938 I moved into a house in the Johannesburg suburb of Waverley. We had

planted a citrus tree, and it was dying. Every morning I said to it "The life of God

constitutes every part of your being. You understand what I am saying. Come

forth, come forth," and it grew, and flowered and bore fruit. God as Mind is

everywhere present. Science has discovered that when you are going to cut down a

tree it knows what is happening and gives off an excretion to warn other trees. Do

you know that if you go into a room and are full of hatred the flowers cringe with

fear? You, a tree, a flower, are one Presence. We derive our life from the flora, and

we expel a gas that is harmful to us but which gives flora its life. And yet all over

the world we are decimating the forests.

The flora are our brothers and sisters and I am their keeper, whether I like it or not.

It behoves me to love my neighbour as myself - if I want mental peace, emotional

harmony, and physical security. To me it makes sense. People underestimate the

power of love. They think they have everything but they have nothing.

"United we stand." If there is unity within us individually and between us

collectively there can be only love, not a sentimental thing but the willing of good

for ourselves and one for the other. I like to see you happy, healthy, secure and

prosperous. In loving you, a so-called part of Creation, I am loving the Whole.

As I am the Whole, you are the Whole, and the Whole expresses itself only as

Wholeness.

Sitting at the airport one day I met an Indian who offered to get me some apple

juice. When he came back from the dispenser he started talking about our country:

"You see, I am an Indian and I do not want any white neighbours. We have our

customs, our religion, we think and feel alike. For example, if I drive on my

neighbour's lawn he does not bawl me out. But if I encroach on a white man's

property he will shout at me. No sir, we are very happy on our own." "Well" I said

"I am glad to hear this, for your sakes. If you are happy I am happy." What else

could I say? United we stand, divided we fall. You can build an impregnable

fortress around yourself, or live under a dome a thousand feet underground, but it

will collapse from within.

Paul says "God is not mocked." Repeatedly in the Bible God declares "I will

overthrow." God, Who is Law, does not permit disunity anywhere in His

Creation. He does not overthrow - we do it ourselves. So let us examine our minds

and hearts. Are they in unity and free of fear and anger? If I take my stand in

strength, I stand in Omnipotence, in Which my every problem, be it mental,

emotional, physical or material, is dissipated back into the native nothingness from

which it sprang.
